DMin Program

PAThS is pleased to offer the Doctor of Ministry (DMin) program in affiliation with Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) in Springfield, Missouri, USA.

The focus of the DMin program is practical in nature, directing the student toward research that is less theoretical than that of the PhD program, and more focused on addressing felt ministry needs. The program design encompasses a broad range of ministry areas intended not only to increase the student’s knowledge in these areas, but to also impact the student’s life though the classroom interaction with faculty and fellow students in a close-knit cohort model.

Typical DMin students include:

  • Bible school faculty and administrators
  • Pastors
  • Church leaders
  • Missionaries

The DMin student will choose from the following tracks: Bible-Theology, Missions, Education, or Leadership. The choice of track must conform to prior studies at the postgraduate level. Students must take all electives offered in their chosen track.

The program culminates in ministry-related research and an applied project within the chosen area of study.

The Doctor of Ministry (DMin) program is typically built on a Masters of Divinity  (MDiv) degree. Students entering with an approved MDiv degree must take 15 credit hours of track-specific course work, 9 credit hours of research course work and the final 6-hour project, totaling 30 credit hours for completion. See outline below:

  •     Core Courses: 15 credit hours
  •     Research Courses: 9 credit hours
  •     Project Research and Writing: 6 credit hours

Students entering with an approved MA degree are admitted on a provisional basis until they complete 30 credit hours of MDiv equivalency courses. At this point, the student officially matriculates as a doctoral student for the remainder of their time at PAThS. See outline below:

  •     Core Courses: 15 credit hours
  •     General MDiv Equivalency Courses: 15 credit hours
  •     Elective MDiv Equivalency Courses: 15 credit hours
  •     Research Courses: 9 credit hours
  •     Project Research and Writing: 6 credit hours

The DMin research design provides three research courses to prepare the student to complete the research project.  These courses develop the student’s abilities in doctoral-level research and advance the final project-writing process: Foundations for Empirical and Theological Research (RES 9103); Research Methods and Proposal Development (RES 9153); and Strategies for Data Collection and Analysis (RES 9203). The DMin program culminates in a six-credit research project in the student's track of study. A total of 30 credit hours is required for the DMin program (plus an additional 30 hours if MDiv equivalency is required).

The program consists of 3 weeks of residency on campus twice a year until the program requirements are met.
